Product Design

This programme is a grounding in creative problem solving, design skills, prototyping and evaluation. Programme is designed to equip students with the fundamentals of designing typically applied in automotive, furniture and appliances industry. Students will be exposed to a broad spectrum of designing challenges from concept (research and sketches) to the design reality (scale model and prototype).

It is for individuals who are looking to develop skills in designing prototype and an effective business plan to meet both employer and customer’s expectations. The programme transform our students into the future experiential designers that constantly changing the way we experience products and environments Projects range anywhere from automotive design, lighting installation to industrial appliances.

Programme Description

The Diploma in Product Design prepare students to be effective industrial designers with a sound knowledge in the fundamentals of design, problem-solving ability, product efficiency and contemporary market consideration. Students will get a broad spectrum of design challenges, ranging from consumer electronics to mobile communication devices, home electronics, appliances to furniture, and even outdoor public facilities. Through competitions and real-life projects commissioned by companies, the curriculum keep students in tune with the demands of the industry.

Programme Aims

The programme aims to equip students with the broad understanding on the technology used, concept and technical skills to be applied in industrial products. Moreover, the aims to produce a versatile designer for the design industry or any creative field with a balance of both technical and practical aspect.

Career Prospects

Upon completion of this programme, a graduate will find exciting opportunities in many industries such as product design, automotive design, furniture design, design consultation, product merchandising, model making and other areas of design. Essentially, the programme could lead to careers within the creative sector within product design.

Entry Requirements

  • SPM with 3 credits in any subjects including Pendidikan Seni
  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least Grade B in 3 subjects including at least a Pass in Pendidikan Seni
  • Other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution of Government of Malaysia
  • Other equivalent certificate by a Polytechnic
  • Students who did not take Pendidikan Seni as a subject in SPM shall attend AND pass the interview session/ drawing test/ portfolio evaluation conducted by KLMUC
